Today was the last day of school. Do you remember that feeling? Freedom. Excitement. No homework. Sleeping in. Swimming. Riding bikes. Playing with friends. Now as a parent, do you know that feeling? Kids in and out of the house all day. More laundry. Driving kids here and there. Making lunches at home... or worse yet... having the kids make their own lunch at home. The phone ringing all day long with friends calling. UGH!
Christopher and Cameron had half-days of school. Emma had a full day. It did not take long for the summer chaos to begin...
I came home from work to three pair of Emma's shoes and a sundress on the floor of the family room; a dishwasher full of clean dishes; a sink so full of dirty dishes that more dirty dishes were on the counter; and an overflowing garbage can in the kitchen. All three children unload and load the dishwasher. There was NO EXCUSE for me to come home to that mess. The boys are both capable of carrying the garbage to the garage and putting a new liner in the trash can. The work at school stopped, but I have plans for the children this summer and my plans include them learning how to use paintbrushes and shovels. The mulch is already in the driveway! The flagpole gets re-set tomorrow, and then landscaping around it can begin. The flagpole being re-set is a story in itself. Nothing in life can be simple or cut & dry! Maybe I'll tell you about that tomorrow after it's done. What took Todd over a month to try to get accomplished took me 5 minutes to accomplish! Cripes.
It's going to be a long summer... It's a good thing Daddy is ultra-laid back. It's a good thing Mommy works outside of the home!
